The “secret” intent of the Amendment was to lay the groundwork for an abortion ban.
The day before the amendment vote, Democratic voters received anonymous text messages telling them that “Voting YES on the amendment will give women a choice.” The source of this disinformation campaign was never identified.
Republican groups challenged the results of the election alleging improperly counted votes. The recount of nine counties found no significant change.

In Congress, Nancy consistently voted to support homeowners and expand access to affordable housing. She broke with her party to vote against the $700B financial bailout plan in 2008, holding banks and lenders accountable.
