Nancy Boyda gained national recognition in 2006 by defeating former Olympic track star Jim Ryun to represent Kansas’ 2nd Congressional District.
As U.S. Representative she went on to serve on the House Agriculture and Armed Services committees.
Later she became Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Personnel at the Pentagon.
Nancy has consistently been known as a moderate, independent voice.
In 2007 she said, “If we can’t find a way to speak to each other across the political, ideological, and religious divides, we will lose our democracy.”
With the nation dangerously divided, Nancy believes Kansas can lead the way in rebuilding trust and fostering hope.
Now in 2024, Nancy is once again running for the KS-2 seat, taking on the challenge of bringing people together.
Known for her common sense and bipartisanship, Nancy has been described by The Kansas City Star as “an outspoken advocate for reform at home and wiser policies abroad.”
As a member of Congress, she was credited by The Topeka Capital-Journal with “rebuilding trust” in Washington through her work on ethics reform. And, The Parsons Sun wrote, “The impact of Congresswoman Boyda is impressive to the point of being staggering.”
Today, Nancy lives on a small farm outside Baldwin City, where she raises goats, hens, and tends to an orchard and gardens.
She is deeply involved in her community, serving on the board of the Homeless Resource Center and managing its volunteers.
She also teaches preschoolers about gardening and serves on the board of the Lawrence Barn Dance Association.
Nancy graduated with honors from William Jewell College with degrees in chemistry and education.
She began her career as an analytical chemist for the EPA before moving into management roles in the pharmaceutical industry.
Although not initially political, she ran for Congress in 2004, narrowly lost, and succeeded in 2006.
